Ricky Taylors was opened in May 2001 by a local businessman frustrated at the lack of clothing shops in his home town and the lack of service supplied by the high street shops.

The concept was to have "clothing of quality and distinction" by supplying a variety of styles and prices, points that would appeal to all the local community. A key factor was to offer customer service rivalled by none, with a sound knowledge of the rag trade and understading and meeting the requirements of their customer.

Awards quickly followed with the shop winning "best new company" in Essex sponsored by NatWest at the 2003 Essex Countrywide Business Awards. Other acolades have been "best customer service" at the Southend awards and finalist for "retailer of the year" at the Basildon Awards.
